The more avant-garde designers started off Paris fashion week. Mixmaster Dries Van Noten gave us another collection of perfectly paired abstract prints, the highly anticipated Mugler collection featuring Lady Gaga fell flat (we're used to the shoulder padded silhouette...it would have a made a bigger splash in say, 2009), and Rick Owens did his usual goth-alien thing. The designer who suprised the most was Gareth Pugh, who after 3 seasons of showing movies rather than a collection, actually produced a fashion show. While still a lover of black, he introduced blue and gold into his usual unusual wear. The genderbending looks were further solidified by showing both menswear and womenswear in the same collection (quelle idee!), and overall, his collection will lead the glam goth pack come September.
